The Fraunhofer Institute for Material and Beam Technology IWS and the Institute of Production Engineering and Automation ITMA of Wroclaw University of Technology intensify the relationships and co-operation in funding the Fraunhofer Project Center for Laser Integrated Manufacturing in Wroclaw.

The main objectives of this joint center are:

• to build up an applied science competence center for laser material processing and  production engineering
• to expand the Fraunhofer model for polish and east European markets
• to extend the educational portfolio of WUoT, to enable students' exchange and transboundary courses of studies
• to educate and recruit qualified personnel for the Fraunhofer Project Center for Laser Integrated Manufacturing
• to establish the Fraunhofer Project Center as an applied R&D laboratory with industrial, governmental and European funding
  
  

The competencies of the Fraunhofer Project Center arise from the core laser based business fields of the Fraunhofer-IWS:

• joining,
• removal and cutting,
• surface layer and
  thermal coating technologies,

and the basic areas of the Institute of Production Engineering and Automation (ITMA):

• manufacturing technologies,
• production management,
• production automation,
• Quality inspection systems.

The development of energy efficient technologies and products are the topic for publicly funded research projects. As strategic research the competencies of both partners are combined to develop technologies for the »Laser Integrated Manufacturing« with a first step of integration in »Direct Manufacturing«.
